LAKHIMPUR KHERI/BAHRAICH, May 19 -- The tragic accident on National Highway-730 in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday morning cut short the lives and careers of an engineer, a businessman, a government teacher and two teenagers. At least seven of those killed were associated with Bahraich where a pall of gloom descended after two road accidents in less than 24 hours. While four people were killed in a crash under the Matera police station area on Sunday night, 10 people lost their lives in the accident under the Isanagar police station area in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday morning. Among those who died in the Lakhimpur Kheri accident was Gayatri Vaish, wife of Ramesh Chandra Gupta. She was a teacher posted at the Composite School Raiboja since 2016. Originally a resident of Sitapur, Gayatri had become a beloved figure among students and colleagues alike. She was initially supposed to return home from Bahraich, where she lived on rent, on May 20 when the summer vacation was supposed to begin. However, when she learned her son had returned from college, she visited her Sitapur home on Saturday to meet him, despite her husband advising her to wait until after the summer vacations began. Her journey tragically ended as she was returning to school on Monday morning to resume her duties at the village in Bahraich. Jaiveer Singh, an engineer with a power company in Mumbai, was returning home to Bahraich to celebrate his promotion before taking up a new job in Qatar. According to his uncle and brother, Jaiveer's flight abroad was scheduled for May 21. However, he was killed in the van-truck collision on Monday morning. The tragedy also shook the business community of Mihimpurwa after the death of Rajesh Goyal, son of Manilal Goyal. Rajesh, engaged in real estate and wholesale trading, had travelled to Lucknow on May 15 for business purposes before visiting his sister in Lakhimpur, where he stayed overnight.
