Flooding hits 20 Faizullaganj colonies
LUCKNOW, Oct. 8 -- Flooding has affected around 20 residential colonies in Faizullaganj, with several pockets submerged and daily life disrupted. Schools in the affected areas have been converted into relief camps for locals displaced by the rising water. Pawan Vihar, Mama Colony, Kailash Vihar, Gomti Vihar, Durga Puri, Bhargava Colony, Akshay Puram, Chaube Dairy, Shiv Shakti Nagar, Shiv Vihar, Patang Maidan, Shri Ram Vihar, Ram Nagar, Vishnu Vihar, Jain Colony, Ganesh Vihar and Nanda Farm are among the affected areas. Parts of Sant Kabir Nagar and Krishna Lok Colony have also been affected.
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has proposed 12 flood pumping stations along the Green Corridor from IIM Road to Kisan Path following waterlogging caused by heavy rain and the rise in the Gomti river. The Rs 148.87-crore project includes eight stations with 400-kilolitre capacity and four with 600-kilolitre capacity. The proposed stations will cover areas including Gomti Nagar Extension, Ekana Stadium, CG City, IT City and Wellness City.
Women in flood-hit Faizullaganj performed aarti and offered prayers to the Gomti river on Wednesday, seeking relief from rising floodwater in Sant Kabir Nagar Colony. The women prayed for the river to recede and normalcy to return to the affected locality, social worker Mamta Tripathi said.
