Flood water begins to recede, 1,775 people still in relief camps
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 31 -- Water levels of both the Ganga and Yamuna receded further on the second day on Saturday. As per records, the water level of Yamuna recorded a decline of 61 cm in the past 24 hours, while the level of Ganga at Phaphamau recorded a decline of 81 cm.
At 4am on Saturday, water level of Ganga at Phaphamau was recorded at 83.44 meters while at Chatnag the same was recorded at 82.45 meters. Similarly, the level of Yamuna in Naini was recorded at 82.99 meters. According to ADM (finance and revenue), Vinita Singh, nodal officer for flood relief measures, till Saturday evening, 1,775 people of 503 families were residing at five relief camps in city limits including Cantt Marriage Hall Sadar Bazar New Cantt, Annie Besant School, Allenganj, Rishikul Higher Secondary School, Rajapur, Mehboob Ali Inter College, Stanley Road, Bailey and St Joseph Girls High School, Mumfordganj.
According to the official, 12 localities were still affected with flood water in city limits under Sadar tehsil including Mau Saraiya, Rajapur, Chota Baghada, Newada, Beli Kachar, Beli Uparhar, Mehendauri, Salori, Shivkuti, Muirabad, Daraganj, etc.
In rural parts of the district a total of eight villages were affected in four tehsils including Phulpur, Karchana, Soraon and Phaphamau.
On Saturday, 35 manually operated boats besides 2 motor boats were made operational to provide relief material to residents stranded in their homes....
