GORAKHPUR, Sept. 2 -- Nine unidentified bodies which washed into Kushinagar district from Nepal following devastating floods have been sent back towards the Nepal border after post-mortem examinations, officials said on Tuesday. The nine bodies were among 13 bodies recovered near Bhedahri jungle in Kushinagar after apparently being swept downstream by the Narayani river. Four of the bodies underwent post-mortem examinations at a medical college in Kushinagar, while the remaining five, which had been kept at the AIIMS Gorakhpur mortuary, were examined there on Tuesday afternoon. Additional district magistrate FR Vaibhav Mishra said the bodies had been kept in mortuaries for 72 hours to allow relatives or authorities to establish their identities. However, no one came forward to claim them during the stipulated period. Following the post-mortem examinations, all nine bodies were placed in coffins and kept in freezers overnight.
