LAKHIMPUR KHERI/BAHRAICH, Sept. 27 -- Five people were killed in rain-related incidents in Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich districts on Saturday, officials said. In Lakhimpur Kheri district, three members of a family were killed when the mud wall of their house collapsed at Rahmat Nagar village under Neemgaon police station limits in Mitauli tehsil early on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Mohit Kashyap (50), his wife Kavita (45) and son Ankit, 10. Deputy superintendent of police, Mitauli, Yadavendra Yadav confirmed the incident. Incessant rainfall (191.10 mm) and strong winds lashed the district since Friday morning, disrupting normal life in rural as well as in urban areas. Roads and fields were inundated, trees were uprooted, power supply cables snapped, and vehicular traffic was paralysed. In Bahraich's Kaiserganj, a 52-year-old woman Nankai, a resident of Devalkha village, died after the thatched roof of her house collapsed on her due to strong winds. She was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. In the Nanpara area, Mishri Lala (44), a resident of Matera, died after a mud wall collapsed following heavy rainfall. Nanpara sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Prakash Singh confirmed the incident. A flood alert was issued in Lakhimpur Kheri following the discharge of 3.40 lakh cusec water into the Sharda river from the Banbasa barrage. The information was shared with the district authorities and people along the river were told to stay safe. Lakhimpur Kheri district magistrate Anjani Kumar Singh said a close watch was being kept on the Sharda water level. In Bahraich, heavy rain and strong winds uprooted trees, affecting traffic on the Bahraich-Lucknow route as well as the Visheshwarganj-Ikauna road.
