VARANASI, Aug. 3 -- A 65-year-old man was injured after being attacked by a crocodile while fishing in the Son River near Kargara village under the Chopan police station area in Sonbhadra on Saturday, police said. The injured man, Lallu Nishad, suffered multiple bite injuries and is undergoing treatment. According to locals, he accidentally stepped on a crocodile hiding in the water, which then attacked him. Hearing his cries, nearby villagers rushed to the spot, rescued him from the crocodile and took him to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chopan. Dr Arjun, posted at CHC Chopan, said the victim had clear signs of a crocodile attack. He was given first aid and referred to the district hospital as his condition was critical. He remains in a serious condition. After the incident, the village head and local residents informed the Forest Department. Officials are collecting details of the attack and said surveillance along the river will be increased. Villagers claimed that more than a dozen young crocodiles had been released into the Son River a few months ago. They have urged the forest department to strengthen surveillance and take effective measures to ensure public safety along the river....
