Agra, June 11 -- Firozabad police arrested a maulana on Wednesday, accused of raping a 14-year-old student in a mosque recently. It is alleged the maulana was named in the FIR lodged for rape and charges under POCSO on the complaint of mother the of victim girl who used to visit madarsa linked to the mosque for learning Urdu. She was raped in the mosque on Sunday. Superintendent of police (city) Ravi Shankar Prasad said that accused, Zakir Hafiz was absconding since Sunday after committing the crime. 'He is a maulana at Jannati Mosque in Ramgarh area of Firozabad city. He is accused of raping a minor girl who used to come to learn Urdu. She was dragged and raped inside the mosque on Sunday' he said. It may be recalled that a case was registered on complaint of mother of the girl. In her complaint, the mother alleged that the girl had gone to fetch water in mosque on Sunday when Zakir, a Hafiz at mosque, dragged her to his room and raped her.
