fireman awarded President's Medal for Gallantry
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 17 -- Fireman Vivek Kumar Patel, a native of Kaithi Chauraha in the Karachhana area of Prayagraj, has been awarded the President's Medal for Gallantry by the Government of India for his courage and exemplary commitment to duty during fire and other emergency rescue operations.
Patel is currently posted with the Uttar Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services department under the Lucknow police commissionerate. He was honoured for risking his life to rescue people trapped in fires and other emergencies. He also played a crucial role in life-saving and relief operations, according to a communique issued on Sunday.
The President's Medal for Gallantry is among the highest honours for acts of exceptional courage during peacetime. It is awarded to personnel of the police and other eligible uniformed services for acts of bravery and distinguished service.
Patel comes from a farming family. His father, Rajendra Prasad Patel, is a farmer. He said his son had shown a strong inclination towards helping others and stepping forward during emergencies since childhood.
