LUCKNOW, June 16 -- An explosion at a licensed firecracker manufacturing unit in Devti village under Nagram police station limits here on Monday left a 22-year-old woman dead and a 16-year-old boy injured, officials said. The blast's impact completely flattened the structure housing the unit, prompting a large-scale emergency response involving fire tenders, ambulances and a bomb disposal squad. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) South Amit K Anand, who reached the spot with senior officers, confirmed the incident occurred at a licensed firecracker unit on the village outskirts. The injured woman was first taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Mohanlalganj and later referred to Civil Hospital in Lucknow, where she died during treatment. Local residents said the explosion was heard nearly 1.5 to 2 km away. People from nearby areas rushed to the site after hearing the blast. Officials noted that no residential houses were in the immediate vicinity of the unit, which likely prevented a larger casualty count. Fire department officials said they received information at 11:18 am, after which the first fire tender was sent within a minute. Two additional fire tenders were deployed from PGI fire station, along with a multi disaster response vehicle from Hazratganj due to the fire's intensity.
