Fire at coaching centre in Gkp; no casualties reported
GORAKHPUR, April 12 -- A major fire broke out on the third floor of a residential building being used for running coaching classes near Chhatra Sangh Chauraha in Gorakhpur on Saturday morning, causing panic in the locality and destroying property worth around Rs.2 lakh, officials said.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control after an operation lasting nearly an hour.
District fire control officer S Rai said two teams rushed to the spot and found flames engulfing the top floor.
Fire personnel safely evacuated people and doused the fire after sustained efforts, preventing it from spreading to adjoining structures.
Officials confirmed that no casualties were reported. However, furniture, household goods and other materials on the third floor were extensively damaged.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an inquiry has been initiated.
Authorities said the fire brigade's timely response helped avert a major mishap in the congested area.
Local residents gathered at the spot as thick smoke billowed from the building, creating panic before the situation was brought under control....
