PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 25 -- Police registered an FIR against three persons in connection with the alleged illegal sale and encroachment of land worth around Rs 7 crore that belonged to Ashraf, the slain brother of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, officials said on Monday. The action comes two days after the district administration demolished illegal plot demarcations on the land during an anti-encroachment drive conducted under the supervision of SDM (Sadar) Ankit Verma in Peepalgaon area under the Airport police station limits in Prayagraj. According to police, the FIR was lodged at Airport police station on the complaint of Lekhpal Manish Kumar. In his complaint, Kumar alleged that Mohammad Muslim, Mohammad Nasrat and Aftab Ahmed facilitated the sale of more than one acre of the land, despite it having been confiscated by the government under the Gangsters Act on July 14, 2008. The complainant alleged that the accused attempted to divide the land into plots and transfer possession to buyers. They are also accused of misleading purchasers by concealing the fact that the property had been confiscated and by using forged documents in the transactions. Officials said the three named accused are believed to have close links with Atiq Ahmed and were reportedly associated with his gang. This is not the first such instance involving the property. A similar case surfaced in December last year when portions of the confiscated land were allegedly sold after being divided into plots. An FIR was registered at Airport police station against Mohammad Muslim in connection with that case. Authorities further stated that a government notice board installed on the land after its confiscation had been removed, allegedly to facilitate illegal plotting activities.
