FIR against Lucknow restaurant for serving liquor sans bar licence
Lucknow, Sept. 17 -- The Uttar Pradesh excise department officials raided Tanatan restaurant in the Hazratganj area late on Monday night, where liquor was being served without a proper bar licence. Along with liquor bottles, bills of liquor sales were also recovered from the spot. A case in this regard has been registered against five people, including the manager of the restaurant.
A team of officials led by the district excise officer, Lucknow, Karunendra Singh, under the campaign being run to prevent illegal sale of liquor in restaurants etc, raided the restaurant and caught the staff illegally serving liquor without a bar licence at Tanatan restaurant.
A total of 40 pieces of sealed bottles, 39 open bottles of high range and 60 pieces of beer of different brands were recovered from the restaurant. Apart from this, bills of liquor sale were also recovered from the restaurant.
Singh said, "We received information about liquor being served illegally at Tanatan restaurant late on Monday evening after which our officers reached the restaurant and asked about liquor being sold in the restaurant and asked the manager to furnish bar licence details. The manager failed to furnish the bar licence after which several Indian made and foreign liquor bottles were seized.
"The restaurant manager said that he used to take a licence occasionally, It was learnt that in the garb of previous licences the restaurant was selling liquor without proper bar licence even on the days when licence was not taken. This caused a huge dent to excise revenue which is a punishable offence as per section 60/20 of excise law and also under section 139(2)/318(4) of the BNS. A case has been registered at Hazratganj police station in this regard and the accused have been arrested and sent to jail."
A case was registered against restaurant manager Rakesh Kumar, Shivam Kumar, Arvind Kumar, Shyam Singh and Sanjay Kumar Giri at the Hazratganj police station under relevant sections of the Excise Act and BNS and they were arrested on the spot and sent to jail.
Earlier on Monday, excise department officials raided a composite liquor shop on Sitapur Road, near Daliganj Railway Crossing and recovered liquor bottles with fake QR codes. A case has been registered against the accused Rajesh Jaiswal and Ashok Kumar Jaiswal in the Madehganj police station.
The team recovered two 180 ml Iconic White, two 375 ML Iconic White, two 375 ml and 180 ml of Blenders Pride, three 180 ml of Royal Stag, one 180 ml of Imperial Blue, one 180 ml of Sterling Reserve B7 illegal liquor from Composite Shop Sitapur Road (near Daliganj Railway Crossing to Janaki Prasad Agarwal Petrol Pump).
However, when the officials scanned the QR codes on the bottles with the departmental app, the details of beer Tuborg Strong, Astral Malt Beer was found. A case was registered against the accused Rajesh Jaiswal and Ashok Kumar Jaiswal in the Madehganj police station under the relevant sections of the Excise Act and BNS and they were arrested from the spot and sent to jail....
