Faulty ACs add to patients' ordeal at KGMU amid heatwave
LUCKNOW, June 28 -- Amid the ongoing heatwave, malfunctioning air conditioners in critical care wards at King George's Medical University (KGMU) over the past few days have raised concerns over patient care, with doctors flagging inadequate cooling in the high dependency unit (HDU) and cancer patients complaining of severe discomfort in the old radiotherapy department.
According to complaints, four of the eight air conditioners in the HDU-ventilator and post-operative ward of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, Queen Mary, have remained non-functional for the past few days, while the remaining units are providing inadequate cooling. Doctors said proper temperature control is essential to reduce infection risk and ensure the efficient functioning of ventilators and other life-support equipment.
KGMU shifted the obstetrics and gynaecology OPD to centralised air conditioning, relocating AC units to the HDU and other areas, said HOD Prof Anju Agarwal. Meanwhile, cancer patients at the old radiotherapy department complained of defunct ACs and non-functional fans....
