PRAYAGRAJ, March 9 -- A man in the Mahewaghat police station area of Kaushambi has been booked for allegedly attempting to sexually assault his minor daughter. The accused, reportedly addicted to alcohol, assaulted both the child and his wife when they tried to resist. Police have launched a search operation and traced initial leads indicating he may be hiding in Prayagraj. According to the complaint filed by the victim's mother, her husband often misbehaves with family members after consuming alcohol and physically assaults her when she objects. She alleged that on Friday night, the accused took their nine-year-old daughter to an abandoned house nearby and attempted the sexual assault. When a family member witnessed the incident and raised an alarm, the child's mother rushed to the spot. The accused then allegedly assaulted her as well and threatened to kill her if she approached the police. The family first took the matter to a local panchayat. Discussions continued until Saturday evening, but when no resolution was reached, the woman went to the Mahewaghat police station and filed a formal complaint. Based on the allegations, the police registered a case under relevant sections, including those of POCSO Act, and began a search for the accused. SHO Mahewaghat police station Dhirendra Singh confirmed that the initial investigation showed evidence supporting the allegations mentioned in the complaint. "The accused is absconding, and teams have been deployed to arrest him. He will be taken into custody soon," he said.
