Father, son run over by train in Deoria
GORAKHPUR, June 21 -- A man's desperate attempt to save his son ended in tragedy when both were run over by a train near Gauri Bazar in Deoria district late on Friday night. The incident is believed to be linked to the family's prolonged financial hardships.
Following a heated argument, the son allegedly rushed towards an approaching train, and his father ran after him in an attempt to save him. Both were struck by the train and died on the spot, said police.
Circle officer of Rudrapur, SK Rai, said on Saturday that the tragedy unfolded near Gauri Bazar and that the family had been facing severe financial distress for a long time. Their bodies were found on the railway tracks early on Saturday morning. The deceased were identified as Shravan Jaiswal, 55, and his son Rakesh Jaiswal, 25. Personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the local police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. Further legal proceedings are underway.
Police officials said that Rakesh allegedly ran towards the railway tracks in front of an approaching train. Seeing this, his father rushed to rescue him but was also hit by the speeding train, resulting in the deaths of both.
According to police, Shravan Jaiswal ran a readymade garment shop. On Friday, the father and son had gone out to purchase goods for the shop when a dispute reportedly broke out between them over certain issues.
When they did not return home late at night, family members became worried and learned about the tragedy only on Saturday morning.
Police said preliminary findings indicate that financial difficulties may have played a role in the tragedy, though the exact circumstances are still being verified....
