Father, 2 girls killed in Basti road mishap; bodies retrieved after 11 hrs
GORAKHPUR, Oct. 27 -- A 38-year-old man and his two young daughters were killed after a truck rammed into their motorcycle in Basti district on Sunday night. Their bodies remained trapped beneath the truck for nearly 11 hours before they were recovered on Monday morning. The accident occurred on the Babhanan-Gaur Road when Rajesh Yadav, a village watchman from Kotwa village, was returning home with his daughters, Shivangi, 13 and Manvi, 11, after attending a community feast in Ramapur village.
According to police officials, the truck, which was carrying animal feed, hit their motorcycle just a few metres from their house. Following the collision, the truck veered off the road and plunged into a ditch, trapping all three beneath it. When Rajesh and his daughters failed to return home that night, their family members grew worried and began searching for them. The tragedy came to light on Monday morning when the bodies were discovered beneath the truck.
Police from Gaur reached the spot, and a heavy vehicle recovery machine was called in to lift the truck and retrieve the bodies. The recovery operation disrupted traffic, prompting authorities to halt vehicular movement in both directions.
Circle officer Swarnima Singh described the incident as extremely tragic. She said the truck had been seized and legal action was being initiated against the driver based on a complaint lodged by the deceased's family members. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident....
