Meerut, Aug. 29 -- A 50-year-old farmer, in a state of panic, took his own life by hanging himself from a tree in an Amroha village after receiving a threatening call from a man claiming to be a police officer. The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and legal action is being pursued. According to the farmer's son, the incident traces back to Tuesday when his father visited his in-laws' village under the jurisdiction of the Kela Devi police station. A dispute reportedly broke out there, escalating into a physical altercation with some individuals. After the altercation, the victim returned to his village. The situation took a grim turn on Wednesday when, around 1.30pm, the son received a call from a person identifying himself as an SI from the Kela Devi police station. The caller demanded that the victim farmer report to the station within an hour, threatening that failure to comply would result in a case being registered against him under serious charges. Distraught by the call, the son informed his father, who was working in the fields at the time. Overwhelmed by the threat, the farmer went to a nearby paddy field and hanged himself from a tree. His body was discovered shortly afterward, plunging his family into grief. The son of the deceased farmer claims that he has the recording of the threat call, which has since gone viral.
