Fallen IAF sergeant laid to rest with full state honours
AGRA, June 16 -- The mortal remains of Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, who was killed in the AN-32 aircraft crash in Assam, were brought to his home district of Aligarh on Monday for last rites, which were performed with full state honours.
A native of Saalpur village in the Tappal area of Aligarh, Sergeant Sharma died when the Indian Air Force transport plane crashed on the morning of June 13 while flying from Jorhat to Chabua. The aircraft was carrying six personnel, including three aircrew officers and three jawans. The remains were first transported from Assam to the Hindon Air Force Station, where officers paid their respects. They were then brought to Aligarh, where the final rites were conducted in the presence of family members, local officials and residents.
Aligarh district magistrate Avnish Kumar attended the ceremony, confirming that all official formalities had been completed, and paid tribute to the sergeant's supreme sacrifice in the line of duty....
