LUCKNOW, Sept. 14 -- A house near Sikrwar Chauraha in Madiyaon was allegedly being used as a mini counterfeit pan masala manufacturing unit, where two men prepared spurious mixtures, packed them in look-alike wrappers of popular brands and sold them in the market at the price of genuine products, police said on Sunday. The Madiyaon police arrested Pintu Gupta, 45, and Pawan Sahu, 30, both residents of Dehli Maharajganj in Rae Bareli, on Saturday evening following information provided by a representative of a popular brand. What makes the seizure notable is the range of material recovered from the premises. "Police seized 39.5 kg of prepared counterfeit/spurious pan masala, 5.5 kg of loose tobacco and 600 gm of catechu-lime powder, besides packaging material and equipment allegedly used to manufacture and pack the product," said SHO Shivananad Mishra. "Cops also recovered rolls bearing the names of several brands, including Kamla Pasand, Rajshree, Rajshree Gold, Vimal, Kishore, Ojaswi-2 and SNK, along with empty and cut pouches and packets," police added in a statement. htc...
