Fake currency seized at Prayagraj Jn, Rajasthan man held
PRAYAGRAJ, July 8 -- The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a 20-year-old man from Rajasthan at Prayagraj Junction railway station on Tuesday and seized counterfeit currency bundles with a face value of Rs.50 lakh that were allegedly being exchanged for genuine currency.
The accused, identified as Ramniwas, a resident of Gajroop Desar village in Bikaner district of Rajasthan, was apprehended around 1.15 pm during a joint operation by the GRP and the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF). He was intercepted near the luggage junction board on the Delhi-end of Platform No. 1 at Prayagraj Junction.
GRP SHO Akhilesh Kumar Singh said they recovered a bag containing 10 bundles, each comprising 10 packets resembling Rs.500 currency notes, with a total face value of Rs.50 lakh. The bundles were wrapped in transparent white plastic to resemble genuine bank-note packets.
According to police, the accused allegedly travelled by train carrying the fake currency bundles from Delhi's Paharganj to Kolkata, where he cheated unsuspecting people by handing over the counterfeit bundles in exchange for genuine currency before fleeing with the cash. The police said he used the proceeds for personal expenses.
The arrest was made during a special drive launched by the Railway Police to curb theft, snatching, illegal trafficking and other crimes at railway stations and aboard trains. A case has been registered under Sections 180, 182 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further legal action is underway....
