Explosions rock biodiesel plant in Farrukhabad
Kanpur, Oct. 19 -- A series of loud explosions rocked a biodiesel refinery in Nawabganj, Farrukhabad, on Saturday evening.
SP Farrukhabad, Arti Singh, confirmed that one person was injured and no deaths had been reported.
"We are working to put out the flames. Teams from other districts have been called in, and all necessary steps are being taken to prevent further damage," she said.
As a precaution, road travel on the Kanpur-Farrukhabad Road towards Delhi has been suspended.
Rescue and firefighting operations were ongoing till the time of filing this report.
The incident occurred at a private factory in Sadiqpur village, where huge flames lit up the sky. The force of the blasts was felt up to five kilometres away.
The fire is believed to have started inside the plant before spreading to storage units holding biodiesel drums, which began exploding one after another, worsening the situation and hampering firefighting efforts.
Terrified residents fled their homes as continuous blasts echoed through the area. The factory, spread over about 22 bighas, was engulfed in flames within minutes.
The intense heat and recurring explosions made it difficult for firefighters to reach the core of the blaze.
Fire tenders from Farrukhabad and nearby districts, aided by the Army, were deployed to douse the fire. Officials said water was being sourced from nearby villages using submersible pumps....
