Experts highlight early stroke detection at Neurology meet
Varanasi, Oct. 30 -- The 32nd Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Neurology (IANCON-2025) began on World Stroke Day in Varanasi, organised by the Department of Neurology, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU).Organising Secretary Prof Vijayanath Mishra said brain stroke is a growing health problem in India, affecting nearly 1.8 million people every year.
One in four adults is at risk, and cases are rising among the young due to stress, diabetes, high blood pressure, and lifestyle changes.
Head of the department prof Abhishek Pathak urged people to remember the acronym BEFAST Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, and Time to recognise stroke symptoms early and reach hospital quickly.
Programme chairman prof RN Chaurasia stressed the importance of the "golden hour," the first 60 minutes after a stroke, for effective treatment.
