MEERUT, May 3 -- Police have cracked the chilling double murder of district urban development agency (DUDA) employee Vikrant Kumar and Rakhi Kashyap, arresting former Yuva Morcha leader Sudharas Chauhan and his associate, Kapil Chauhan. Vikrant, 37, a resident of Prayagraj, was posted as a City Mission Manager with DUDA in Baghpat. While Rakhi, 27, hailed from Rajpur village in Baghpat and she was into social media content creation according to the officials. Investigators report the crime was rooted in a volatile mix of illicit relationships, a property dispute and a Rs.25 lakh blackmail racket. Chauhan, who had been associated with the BJP for several years, served as the city president of the Yuva Morcha in 2020 before being replaced a year later. Saharanpur SSP Abhinandan Singh revealed that the crime unfolded in two distinct phases: the killing of Vikrant, followed by the murder of Rakhi to eliminate a key witness and destroy evidence. The case first emerged on April 17 when Vikrant's body was found in a canal near Hasanpur Lotni village, under Badhgaon police station limits of Saharanpur district. Days later, on April 28, the body of a young woman was recovered from a canal outlet in Rajapur Naugaon, under Mirzapur police station. She was identified as Rakhi Kashyap. During interrogation, police uncovered that Rakhi was in relationships with both Vikrant and Sudharas Chauhan. Tensions were high between Rakhi and Vikrant over a disputed plot of land in Mathura. Simultaneously, Rakhi had allegedly recorded an objectionable video of Sudharas at his flat and used it to extort approximately Rs.25 lakh, threatening to make the footage public. On April 15, Vikrant was lured to Rakhi's flat under the pretext of discussing the disputed property. When Vikrant refused to transfer the plot to Rakhi's name, the meeting turned violent. Rakhi and Sudharas used their licenced pistols to shoot him-one bullet hitting his thigh and two striking his chest, resulting in instant death.
