Ex-tenant among five held for minor's kidnapping bid
Meerut, Sept. 11 -- Police in Bareilly's Bithari Chainpur area have arrested five individuals who allegedly attempted to kidnap the 10-year-old son of a government teacher couple on August 21, they said.
One of them is a woman who is believed to have devised the kidnapping. The woman had once been a tenant at the couple's house, police said.
A car, a bike, mobile phones, and a pistol that were used in the crime were recovered. The accused have also disclosed the names of two other accomplices, who were currently being sought.
According to SP Mukesh Chandra Mishra, Gendan Lal and his wife, both government school teachers who live in Ramganga Nagar, reported the incident to the police. Around 7 am on August 21, Piyush left for school when a group of individuals in a car and a bike approached him and forced him to go with them.
Piyush managed to break free from the kidnappers and ran towards Ramganga Nagar Colony. Seeing a crowd of people, the accused fled the scene. Acting swiftly on a complaint filed by Piyush's father, the police launched a search operation and arrested the five accused near Mohanpur alias Ramnagar on Dohra Road on Tuesday.
The arrested were identified as Rajik Ansari of Mir Dhan Jahangir locality in Faridpur, Lareb, Sartaj of Jagatpur in Baradari, Danish, and Pooja Singh of Samrat Ashok Nagar. Notably, Pooja Singh had previously rented a room in the couple's house. She is believed to have orchestrated the kidnapping to demand a ransom from the family. The police are still on the lookout for two other suspects, Mustaqeem and his wife....
