Jaipur, Aug. 14 -- A 90-year-old retired district judge in Jaipur was allegedly kept under "digital arrest" for nearly 15 days and duped of around Rs.2.5 crore by cyber fraudsters who posed as CBI officers and RBI officials, officials said on Wednesday. They threatened to arrest him in connection with a purported Rs.50-crore hawala transaction. The incident took place in the Jyoti Nagar police station area. The victim, Ganpat Singh Bhandari, was allegedly kept under constant surveillance through video calls and pressured into transferring money to multiple bank accounts. His nephew lodged a complaint with the police. According to the complaint, Bhandari received a WhatsApp video call on July 28 from a man dressed in a police uniform who introduced himself as a CBI officer posted in Mumbai. The caller claimed that a Rs.50-crore hawala transaction had been detected in Mumbai and that Rs.40 lakh from the proceeds had been deposited into Bhandari's account. The caller allegedly threatened Bhandari with arrest and that they would implicate one of his family members. Jyoti Nagar SHO Gunjan Verma said, "We received a complaint in this regard on Wednesday and have recorded the victim's statement.
