Estranged husband slits woman's throat, attacks live-in partner
Meerut, March 6 -- A man slit the throat of his 31-year-old estranged wife in Shahjahanpur, killing her on Holi morning. He barged into the house where the woman was staying with her live-in partner and attacked them both.
The incident took place in Balaji Nagar Colony under the Chowk Kotwali police station area of Shahjahanpur district.
The deceased, identified as Aarti, had been living with her partner, Brijdeep, after separating from her husband, Manmohan Pandey. According to the complaint filed by Brijdeep, Manmohan arrived at their house at around 6 am on Wednesday wearing a mask.
As soon as Brijdeep opened the door, the accused allegedly pushed his way inside. He first threw gulal and then took out a bottle of acid from his pocket and attacked Brijdeep, causing burns to his face.
Hearing the commotion, Aarti rushed outside and allegedly attacked her husband with a brick in an attempt to stop him. Brijdeep told her to run away, but Manmohan chased her, caught her and slit her throat with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot. Despite suffering acid burns, Brijdeep fought back and attacked Manmohan, leaving him seriously injured as well. Both men fell at the scene during the struggle.
Brijdeep said Aarti was bleeding heavily from the throat after the attack. He sat near her for some time trying to stop the bleeding. His phone was inside the house, so he went inside to retrieve it before informing the police and family members about the incident.
Police reached the spot and shifted the injured men to the Government Medical College for treatment. SHO Ashwini Kumar said Aarti had married Manmohan Pandey about 10 years ago. The couple had a seven-year-old daughter. Due to ongoing disputes, they had separated and had also filed a divorce petition in court, which had granted them six months' time....
