English-medium schools eroding Indian values: Gulab Devi
PRAYAGRAJ, May 26 -- Secondary education minister Gulab Devi on Monday said that Indian culture and values were being eroded in English-medium and Christian schools, asserting that institutions affiliated with Vidya Bharati were playing a key role in preserving tradition, discipline and morality.
Addressing a regional merit felicitation ceremony at Jwala Devi Inter College in Civil Lines, she said that in today's materialistic and westernised environment, schools run on English-medium lines were witnessing a decline in humanity, moral values and discipline. "The biggest damage is to our civilisation and culture," she said.
She remarked that children studying in such schools were drifting away from traditional practices like greeting parents and teachers respectfully, unlike those in Vidya Bharati institutions.
She urged parents to consider enrolling their children in schools such as Saraswati Shishu Mandir, saying these institutions ensured holistic development rooted in Indian ethos.Emphasising the role of families, the minister called upon mothers to build a friendly relationship with daughters and fathers with sons, while ensuring responsible use of mobile phones among children. She added that teachers alone could not monitor this.
Speaking to the media after the event, Gulab Devi said the government would soon appoint computer teachers in 4,512 government-aided secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh....
