Education must go beyond marks and ranks, says Pathak
Lucknow, July 5 -- Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday emphasised the need to redefine educational success beyond academic scores.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the ACTIVE CISCE workshop for coaches and physical education teachers and the meeting of coordinators of CISCE Games & Sports (UP Region) at La Martiniere College, Lucknow.
"Education must go beyond marks and ranks. Our true objective should be to nurture healthy, confident, and compassionate individuals through sports, fitness, and holistic development, enabling every child to succeed not just in examinations, but in life. Physical health and fitness are indispensable to character building, discipline, and the overall development of our young generation," Pathak said.
Organised by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), the one-day regional workshop brought together nearly 320 coaches, physical education teachers, and sports coordinators representing all zones of Uttar Pradesh to strengthen the implementation of school health, fitness, and sports programmes.
The workshop focused on strengthening the implementation of ACTIVE CISCE, the Council's flagship physical health and fitness assessment programme.
Of the 523 CISCE-affiliated schools in the state, 498 schools (95.20%) registered for the programme.
Nearly 5.96 lakh students have enrolled for the fitness assessments, while 5.06 lakh students have successfully completed their assessments, resulting in an 84.97% completion rate.
In his message Joseph Emmanuel, chief executive and secretary, CISCE, said, "ACTIVE CISCE represents our conviction that physical fitness is fundamental to educational excellence."
