Drone survey ordered for 140 overhead city tanks
LUCKNOW, April 10 -- Taking immediate cognisance of the issue highlighted by Hindustan Times, divisional commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant on Thursday ordered a drone survey of around 140 overhead water tanks across the state capital after reports revealed that thousands of residents were supplied potentially contaminated water due to damaged infrastructure.
Pant directed officials to identify broken, defunct, and poorly maintained tanks and ensure their urgent repair and cleaning. The action follows reports exposing a severely damaged overhead water tank in Rajajipuram Sector E, which has been supplying water to nearly 3,000-4,000 households despite having a broken roof for years.
Pant summoned Jalkal general manager Kuldeep Singh and instructed him to conduct a comprehensive drone survey of all overhead tanks in the city.
He also directed municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar to coordinate the exercise and ensure that a detailed report is submitted without delay.
Calling the matter "critical," Pant emphasised that public health cannot be compromised, especially when a large population depends on these tanks for daily water supply.
Questioning the delay, Pant asked officials why damaged structures were not repaired earlier, even though regular cleaning and maintenance should have flagged such issues.
The HT report on April 8 highlighted that the 800-kilolitre capacity overhead tank in Rajajipuram Sector E has remained in a damaged condition for the past three to four years, exposing stored water to dust, debris and other contaminants....
