LUCKNOW, June 8 -- A major mishap was averted on Sunday when a moving compact SUV caught fire on the Lucknow-Hardoi highway near Muzaffarpur village in Malihabad. Police suspect a technical fault may have caused the incident. According to police, the fire broke out at around 1.10 pm when Abdul Basit, a resident of Railwayganj in Hardoi, was driving alone from Lucknow to Hardoi. The vehicle suddenly caught fire while it was moving. Basit immediately stopped the SUV and got out safely before the flames spread. No injuries were reported. Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after considerable effort. However, the vehicle was extensively damaged in the fire. A preliminary investigation suggests a technical fault or short circuit may have triggered the blaze.
