PRAYAGRAJ, July 10 -- Tension gripped Khalsa village in Baharia development block on Thursday after the deaths of a man and his nephew due to electrocution allegedly caused by a live wire placed around a field for crop protection. The bodies were brought back to the village on Thursday afternoon after post-mortem examinations. Anger among villagers escalated after the bodies arrived. A crowd gathered outside the accused's house and allegedly vandalised the property, damaging household items including a television, cooler and fans. A cement-sheet shed was also demolished. Villagers reportedly drove the cattle present in the cowshed away. Some individuals attempting to record videos of the incident on their mobile phones were also allegedly assaulted. The situation remained tense for several hours before police intervened and restored order through mediation. Authorities later supervised the cremation of both victims. Villagers demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and five bighas of land for the bereaved families. They alleged that local residents had previously objected to the use of live, uncovered electric wires around the field, but their concerns were ignored. According to villagers, the tragedy could have been avoided had the wires been removed earlier. Baharia SHO Manvendra Singh confirmed that Nagendra Bahadur Singh had been arrested and sent to jail. He added that legal action will also be taken against those found involved in the vandalism of the accused's house. According to police, 30-year-old Kamlesh and his 14-year-old nephew Arpit, alias Prince, were on their way to transplant paddy in their field on Wednesday afternoon when they came in contact with a metal wired fence that had allegedly been electrified by a neighbouring farmer, Nagendra Bahadur Singh, to safeguard his maize crop. Both died on the spot. Following a complaint lodged by the victims' family, police registered an FIR against Nagendra Bahadur Singh and his son Vinay Pratap Singh. Nagendra was arrested and sent to jail, while other members of his family reportedly locked their house and fled the village....
