Haridwar, April 12 -- Dehradun and Pithoragarh districts have recorded the highest coverage in treatment of cattle, goats, buffaloes, dogs, horses and other animals through the Mobile Veterinary Unit (1962) service, an on-wheel veterinary ambulance, since its launch four years ago. According to officials, the service has so far treated over 4.49 lakh (4,49,468) ailing and injured animals across the state. The animals treated include 2,22,889 cattle, 1,30,310 goats, 37,912 buffaloes, 24,524 dogs, 13,873 horses and 12,910 other animals. Of the total, Dehradun recorded the highest number of animals treated (70,688), followed by Pithoragarh (59,328) and Pauri Garhwal (40,154). "Till March 31, a total of 4,49,468 animals had been successfully treated under the Mobile Veterinary Unit 1962 service. We are reaching both remote hill villages and rural plains across all 13 districts of Kumaon and Garhwal divisions. We have a fleet of over 60 MVU-1962 vans operating round the clock with a dedicated team of more than 200 veterinary doctors and support staff," said Ashish Negi, state in-charge of the MVU service. He added that a well-equipped call centre has been set up in Dehradun, which receives calls and immediately relays information to the nearest MVU-1962 van through a GPS-based system, enabling quick response based on the caller's location and the animal's condition. Launched in November 2022, the mobile veterinary ambulance service has emerged as a major support system for treating ailing and injured animals across six districts of Kumaon and seven districts of Garhwal, said officials....
