LUCKNOW, Sept. 14 -- Permanent driving licence applicants in Lucknow will have to travel to Banthra from Monday, as the transport department is shifting driving tests from the Transport Nagar RTO office to the newly established Driving Training and Testing Centre (DTTI). The new system, which will be introduced from Monday, will replace the existing manual driving test with an automated, computerised and sensor-based assessment. Sensors installed along the testing track will record vehicle movements and identify driving errors, reducing human intervention in the evaluation process. Under the new system, applicants will complete the required documentation and biometric formalities at the RTO before travelling to the Banthra centre for their driving test. The DTTI, Lucknow's first such driving training and testing centre, was inaugurated by transport minister Daya Shankar Singh on June 30. Its operationalisation, however, took additional time. The department is now preparing to conduct around 250 to 300 driving tests a day at the facility, against the initial planned capacity of about 150 applicants. Under the earlier system, applicants completed documentation and biometric formalities at the Transport Nagar office before undergoing a manual driving assessment on the track.
