Discovering the divine within Nature
India, Aug. 22 -- Santiniketan, like other towns in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, has major temples such as Kankalitala. But there is something else about the place too. It is a humble yet rich sanctuary of Nature where humans peacefully coexist with lushness. In turn, these sylvan surroundings seem ever attentive to genuine admirers.
It was here that, in December 1901, Tagore began Brahmacharyasrama, an experimental school renamed Patha-Bhavana in 1925. Tagore viewed Nature as both a teacher and a dynamic classroom. Inspired by ancient Indian tapovan traditions, the Nobel Laureate's open-air educational system emphasised experiential learning.
