Disaster management courses mandatory for UP officials now
LUCKNOW, Feb. 15 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has made disaster management training compulsory for administrative and police officers across the state to reduce the loss of life and property during natural calamities. Relief commissioner and additional chief executive officer, Dr Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod, wrote to chief secretary SP Goel and the appointments department, directing strict compliance by district officials.
According to the order, officers must complete disaster management courses available on the Government of India's iGOT Karmayogi portal. Those required to undergo training include district magistrates (DMs), superintendents of police (SPs), chief development officers (CDOs), municipal commissioners, joint magistrates, additional district magistrates (ADMs), sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs), additional municipal commissioners, additional superintendents of police (ASPs) and Tehsildars.
Officials must submit their course completion certificates to the Uttar Pradesh State disaster management authority within one month of finishing the training. Newly appointed officers must also complete the course within one month of taking charge.
The training covers disaster planning, response to floods, lightning and heatwaves, use of communication tools during emergencies, and risk assessment and control. The letter states that Uttar Pradesh is prone to floods, snakebites, heatwaves, cold waves and hailstorms.
