Dilapidated house collapses in Budaun, woman killed, 3 cattle die
Meerut, Aug. 14 -- A 55-year-old woman was killed and three cattle died after the front portion of a dilapidated two-storey house collapsed in Budaun district early Thursday morning, trapping the woman under the debris.
The incident occurred at around 5 am in Meehlal Nagla village in the Ujhani area. The deceased was identified as Agarwati, wife of Pratap Singh.
According to police and local administration officials, Agarwati had gone to the outer portion of the house to untie her cattle, as she did every morning, when the weakened structure suddenly collapsed. She was buried under the rubble.
Hearing the commotion, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and managed to pull her out of the debris. However, she had already died by then. Three cattle were also trapped beneath the collapsed structure and died.
Soon after receiving information, two teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and a JCB machine from the Ujhani municipality reached the site and began relief and rescue operations. The SDRF personnel removed the heavy debris and recovered the carcasses of the three cattle.
Local residents said the two-storey house had been lying vacant and that the family currently lived in another house nearby.
The front portion of the old building had developed cracks and had become increasingly weak amid continuous rainfall in the area. htc...
