LUCKNOW, June 28 -- Digital evidence is expected to play a crucial role in the probe of June 22 Aliganj building fire here that claimed 15 lives as police rely on CCTV footage and a digital video recorder (DVR) recovered from the premises and other forensic material to piece together the sequence of events leading to the blaze. Cops privy to the investigation said the DVR recovered from the fire-ravaged building has been sent for forensic examination to determine whether any footage can be retrieved despite the damage caused by the intense heat. Officials are hopeful that even partially recovered video could help corroborate witness statements and establish the movement of people inside the building before the fire broke out. According to officials, digital evidence is expected to help investigators verify the presence of the accused at the spot, establish the chronology of events and strengthen the prosecution's case when the chargesheet is filed. "The investigation is progressing on both technical and forensic evidence. All digital materials are being examined as part of the probe," said Babloo Kumar, JCP (law & order)....
