LUCKNOW, Aug. 26 -- Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajeev Krishna on Tuesday directed police officers across the state to strengthen security arrangements for the upcoming Raksha Bandhan and Barawafat festivals. He laid special emphasis on police visibility at crowded public places, transport hubs and major roads. During a high-level crime review meeting held online with senior police officers from across the state, the DGP ordered adequate deployment of police personnel at bus stands, railway stations, taxi stands, e-rickshaw points and other crowded locations. The move comes in view of the expected increase in the movement of women and the general public during Raksha Bandhan. He directed that anti-Romeo squads be activated at these locations to ensure women's safety and prevent harassment. Police personnel deployed for festival duty will also be briefed in advance on assisting passengers, managing crowds and responding to law-and-order challenges. Krishna also ordered increased police patrolling and visibility on major roads, national and state highways and expressways. The aim is to ensure safe travel and smooth traffic movement during the festivals. Police officers were directed to ensure that Raksha Bandhan and Barawafat celebrations are held in a peaceful, safe and harmonious environment. They were also asked to remain alert to any potential law-and-order challenge. The DGP ordered strict action against stunt riding, speeding and dangerous driving by motorcycles and other vehicles during the festive period. He directed zonal and district police officials to maintain close coordination and ensure adequate deployment at sensitive locations. The DGP stressed that field-level preparedness should be strengthened ahead of the festivals. He also directed police personnel to remain visible at places witnessing large public gatherings. During the meeting, Krishna directed officials to maintain strict monitoring of fake and misleading information circulating on social media. He asked them to ensure immediate verification and legal action wherever required, amid heightened activity on digital platforms during the festive period....
