CHENNAI, Oct. 30 -- The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday described the detention of professor A Kalaiyarasan as a mistake by the local police and expressed regret, state minister CTR Nirmal Kumar said on Thursday. Kalaiyarasan, an associate professor at Madras Institute of Development Studies, was detained on Wednesday allegedly over an abusive comment on Instagram targeting TVK lawmaker J Kamakshi, and was later released, according to an officer. Kalaiyarasan's photograph was allegedly used for the Instagram account that made the remark.
