LUCKNOW, July 26 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has summoned the additional chief secretary/ principal secretary medical education, health and family welfare on August 6 for not providing required details of medical facilities, including ventilators, being provided in various medical colleges and hospitals in all districts of Uttar Pradesh. The order was passed by a division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manjive Shukla on July 16 and uploaded on Saturday in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by the NGO 'We the People' in 2016 through its general secretary Prince Lenin. The PIL sought details of ventilators required in all government hospitals and medical universities in Lucknow. The petitioner also raised other treatment related issues. Earlier, the court had directed the UP government to file an affidavit with details of the medical facilities, including ventilators, being provided. In response to the court's said order, an affidavit was filed by the state on July 16. The court said: "The affidavit is woefully lacking in relevant details. We have no other option but to summon the A.C.S./ Principal Secretary, Medical Education & Medical Health & Family Welfare, Government of U.P., to appear before this Court in person and respond to the queries made by us in our order dated 22.04.2026, as, unless we do it, we are of the view that we may not get the answers at all," the court ordered while directing to list the case on August 6. htc...
