Deoria Tiranga Yatra suffers as 50 girls take ill
gORAKHPUR, Aug. 14 -- A Tiranga Yatra in Deoria turned chaotic on Thursday afternoon after around 50 girls took ill, with several reportedly fainting after experiencing vomiting, weakness and dizziness.
Teachers rushed to the students' aid, with some carrying them to nearby medical facilities.
The affected students were later taken to Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College and Hospital, where 28 are undergoing treatment, while several others were discharged after receiving medical care.
Officials suspect heat, dehydration and exhaustion as possible causes for the girls falling sick.
Chief medical superintendent of Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College, Dr SK Mishra, said the students were suffering from severe dehydration caused by the intense heat. A panel of six doctors was monitoring their condition.
Superintendent of police, Deoria, Abhijeet R Shankar, also visited the medical college to take stock of the situation.
According to officials, the more than 1.5-km-long Tiranga Yatra was organised by the district administration as part of Independence Day celebrations. htc...
