JHANSI, Aug. 14 -- Governor Anandiben Patel on Wednesday urged graduates to become agents of social change and nation-building, calling on them to complement academic knowledge with skills, compassion, innovation and a strong sense of social responsibility at Bundelkhand University's 31st convocation. A total of 34,947 degrees and 79 medals were awarded at the convocation, with girls bagging 63 medals, nearly 80% of the total. Akanksha Rawat, an MSc Agriculture (Horticulture) student at Nehru College, Lalitpur, was the top performer with 94.20% marks. She received the Chancellor's Gold Medal for the highest overall score and Chancellor's Silver Medal for highest marks among female students. She urged universities to train 100 students initially and gradually raise the number to 400, stating skill development could help curb migration for low-paid jobs, while chief guest Prof Nageshwar Rao, chairman of the NAAC executive committee called for balancing advancements in AI and data science with ethics and human values. Higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay urged graduates to draw inspiration from Rani Lakshmibai, respect their parents and teachers and remain committed to nation-building. Minister of state for higher education Rajni Tiwari said the strong performance of female students reflected changing aspirations and urged them to emulate Lakshmibai's "indomitable self-confidence".
