LUCKNOW, May 12 -- Scientists, innovators and members of the technology transfer and licensing team of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) laboratories attended programmes at CSIR institutions here as part of National Technology Day on Monday. At CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), under the Translational Research Lecture series a keynote address by renowned orthopaedic surgeon and vice chancellor of UP University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh was conducted on his journey to translational medicine as orthopaedic surgeon. During his address, he highlighted the importance of bridging clinical practice with scientific research to develop impactful healthcare solutions. Drawing from his professional journey, he shared insights into the growing role of translational medicine in improving patient care and advancing medical technologies. At CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI), scientist and industry expert Ashwin Kashikar, general manager (R&D), Ankur Seeds Pvt Ltd, Nagpur was the keynote speaker. Delivering the lecture on 'Technology: Cultivating Tomorrow's Harvest' he highlighted the transformative role of emerging technologies in agriculture and plant biotechnology. His lecture focused on the integration of AI, machine learning, robotics, automation, genomic selection, precision breeding and genome editing for developing climate-resilient and high-yielding crop varieties. He also spoke about advanced breeding technologies such as genomic selection, speed breeding and AI-driven high-throughput phenotyping, which are significantly accelerating crop improvement programmes. At CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP), the event was conducted under the theme 'Responsible Innovation for Inclusive Growth' with a series of initiatives highlighting technology transfer, women empowerment, scientific outreach, and strategic collaborations. htc...
