VARANASI, Sept. 8 -- A Varanasi court ordered the arrest of a circle officer, Satyendra Prasad Tiwari, for failing to appear before it for evidence in connection with a 2018 SC/ST Act case. The court ordered that he be arrested and produced before the court on September 10. Tiwari, who is currently posted in Kaushambi as CO (traffic), was the investigating officer of the case in Varanasi in 2018. The court of special judge (SC/ST Act) Sudhakar Rai ordered the arrest of Tiwari and directed that he should be produced before the court on September 10. The court also ordered withholding of his salary until further orders. The matter pertains to sessions trial no. 401/2018, State vs. Taufiq Alam Ansari. According to a senior lawyer, the court had summoned the investigating officer to testify via video conferencing on August 13. However, he did not appear, citing engagements related to the Tiranga Yatra. Subsequently, the court summoned him again for testimony via video conferencing on August 24, but he failed to appear on that date as well. The court fixed September 1 as the next date in the matter. However, Tiwari failed to appear before court. As the officer repeatedly failed to give evidence, the court observed that the witness was deliberately not appearing for giving evidence. The court ordered police officials to arrest Satyendra Prasad Tiwari and produce him on September 10.
