Court adds sedition-related charge against 14 accused
AGRA, Aug. 29 -- A total of 14 accused in the alleged conversion racket in Agra will now face trial under an additional section of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), after a local court found grounds to impose Section 152 for acts endangering the nation's sovereignty, unity, and integrity.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Agra passed the order on Wednesday in 'State versus SB Krishna alias Ayesha and others' (Case No. 228 of 2025). The accused were earlier booked under BNS Sections 111(3) (organised crime), 111(4) (member of organised syndicate), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), and Section 3/5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
The matter surfaced in March after two sisters from Agra went missing. Their recovery exposed a network allegedly involved in religious conversions, leading to a police crackdown under Agra commissioner Deepak Kumar. Investigations revealed that the alleged network was run by Abdul Rehman and Ayesha, both of whom had converted to Islam from Hinduism.
In court, assistant prosecution officer Braj Mohan Kushwaha argued that the alleged conversions were aimed at establishing 'Gajwa-e-Hind' and were supported by foreign funding. Based on this, the court ordered the addition of Section 152 BNS to the case against the 14 accused.
