PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 30 -- A husband and wife were killed after a train heading towards Prayagraj hit their motorcycle while they were trying to cross a closed railway crossing beneath the Bhupiyamau railway overbridge on Friday evening. The couple was on its way to the wife's parental home for the Raksha Bandhan festival. The deceased were identified as Ramkrishna Yadav, 45, and his wife Indravati Yadav, 43. They were residents of Raniganj Ajgara village in the Lilapur area of Pratapgarh. The collision severely damaged their motorcycle and left both of them critically injured. According to police, Ramkrishna ran a paan shop in the local market. At around 6.50 pm on Friday, he left home with his wife to visit her relatives in Dharupur village. The village is located along the Ayodhya-Prayagraj Highway under the Dehat Kotwali police station area. While travelling through the Bhupiyamau intersection, the couple reached a railway crossing beneath the overbridge. As the crossing was permanently closed, Ramkrishna reportedly tried to cross the railway tracks through a side passage. At that moment, the Manwar Sangam Express, travelling towards Prayagraj, hit their motorcycle. Local residents and railway authorities informed the police. Bhupiyamau outpost in-charge Atul Yadav and station officer Pushpraj Singh reached the spot soon after receiving the information. They rushed the injured couple to the medical college for treatment.
