LUCKNOW, July 27 -- A young couple died after being allegedly hit by a moving train on the Khalilabad-Basti railway line near Saraiya in Sant Kabir Nagar in the wee hours of Sunday in a suspected case of suicide, police said.
Circle officer, Khalilabad, Priyam Rajshekhar Pandey said the case prima facie appeared to be linked to a relationship, but the exact cause of death and circumstances would be established only after the post-mortem report and investigation.
The police said trackmen Abhay Kumar Yadav and Hanumant Kumar Yadav were inspecting the railway line at around 8.15 pm when they found the man and woman lying critically injured on the up-line track near Saraiya.
They immediately shifted the victims from the tracks and alerted the GRP and Dial-112. Both were rushed to the district hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Police said the man's identity was ascertained after his brother called his mobile phone while he was being taken to the hospital. Relatives reached the hospital and identified both victims.
Preliminary investigation revealed that two had been in a relationship for nearly a year. They became close because their families were related.
Family members told police that couple wanted to get married. According to relatives, both families had agreed to the marriage but had sought some time due to financial constraints. However, the couple was reportedly unwilling to wait.
Meanwhile, police have sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination. htc...
