Bharatpur, July 27 -- Madhya Pradesh police on Saturday detained two suspects for allegedly stealing centuries-old cannon from Narwar Fort to intimidate members of the Gurjar community and damage the Panchana Dam in Karauli amid an ongoing water dispute between the Gurjar and Meena communities, officials said on Sunday. The police said they have traced the stolen cannon to Gamwada Meena village in Karauli district and expect to recover it soon. Narwar SHO Vinay Yadav said the suspects allegedly confessed that the cannon was stolen after tensions escalated over the sharing of water from the Panchana Dam. Police said the accused planned to use the cannon to threaten members of the Gurjar community and, if water was not released to areas inhabited by the Meena community, damage the dam.
