Continuous rain turns Lucknow roads choke points, floods houses
LUCKNOW, Sept. 26 -- Incessant rainfall over the last 24 hours turned several key roads and residential areas in Lucknow into waterlogged choke points on Friday, disrupting traffic movement, flooding stretches and leaving residents struggling to move through their neighbourhoods.
The Shaheed Path underpass in Vibhuti Khand also witnessed water accumulation. Also, long queues formed on Shaheed Path service lane heading towards the Ekana stadium, while vehicles also remained stuck for several minutes at Polytechnic Crossing.
At several locations, commuters and pedestrians abandoned their journeys temporarily and took shelter under building entrances, shopfronts, roofs and other covered spaces as the rain continued.
ACP (Traffic) Central, Pradeep Kumar, inspected the 'Lal Batti' intersection to assess traffic conditions. He directed traffic personnel to ensure smooth traffic movement and maintain heightened vigilance.
Residents of a private colony in Jankipuram reported that water entered their homes.
Virendra Kumar Singh, president of the residents' welfare association, said rainwater had started filling bathrooms in several houses. He also alleged that residents could not reach Lucknow Municipal Corporation officials despite repeatedly calling them for help.
The situation was similar behind Lohia Hospital, where an entire stretch remained submerged, making it difficult for commuters to identify the road and navigate through the waterlogged stretch. Heavy waterlogging was also witnessed in Sector C and Sector D, LDA Colony, Ashiana, with large portions of the roads inundated.
The main road in Rabindrapalli also went under nearly knee-deep water. Residents said the water reached almost halfway up the tyres of four-wheelers.
"Had a vehicle stopped in the middle of the stretch, it would have become difficult for commuters to pass through," residents said. The Malhaur-STP Road route also became inundated after the heavy rainfall..
Lucknow municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar remained unavailable when HT contacted him for a response on the waterlogging and residents' complaints....
