LUCKNOW, Oct. 19 -- With nearly 30,000 residents of Faizullaganj enduring a five-day power outage amid waterlogging, the Uttar Pradesh State Rajya Upbhokta Parishad has decided to approach the state electricity regulator, seeking a one-month bill waiver for affected households and exemption from fixed charges during the disruption, according to a senior office-bearer. The demand comes amid concerns that consumers may have to pay electricity bills despite being deprived of supply for several consecutive days. Around 31 transformers in the waterlogged locality were kept switched off for five days, leaving nearly 30,000 residents without electricity. Officials of the consumer body said they would soon file a public interest proposal before the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, seeking a regulatory mechanism to provide relief to consumers during prolonged power disruptions caused by natural disasters. The proposed framework would provide for a waiver or adjustment in electricity charges for the period during which supply remains completely disrupted, besides exemption from fixed charges. The council has also sought a one-month bill waiver for affected Faizullaganj residents. htc...
